International Wall of Friendship

The International Wall of Friendship (IWoF) is located in the sunken garden on the northern side of the 188 Collins Street complex and is believed to be the only project of its kind in the world.

Built as a symbol of friendship and goodwill and to recognise the contribution that multicultural groups have made to Tasmania, the IWoF is home to over 54 plaques and stones donated by migrant communities who have settled across the state.

Each year communities gather at the IWoF to celebrate days of national and international significance.

The Chinese Community Association of Tasmania presented the first stone on 27 July 1984 at Parliament House.

The official opening of The Wall of Friendship took place on 29 October 1992.
